What do you say? Or is it best of more unique to preserve them orally through generations?

What do you say? Or is it best of more unique to preserve them orally through generations? But if I have to choose one I would choose to have them written down. The ancient Celts no doubt had a rich and fascinating mythology and religion, but they then got conquered by the Romans and Germans, and Christianity came along so the bards no longer passed their tradition down orally and much of the Celts religion has been lost save for the Irish and Welsh in altered butchered Christianized forms. If you orally pass on folklore it survives only as long as there are people to tell the stories. If you write it down however it survives forever.

If you write it down it's easier to preserve them rather than relying on your memory or other factors when passing it down orally. We probably lost some folklore in this way already Shrug

Elizabeth All our Slavic folklore is recorded! Yeah, I'm just glad that my Germanic ancestors mythology has been written down even if it is the Norse version, so I have a mythology and folklore to connect with. American folklore is absolutely terrible though, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, Brer Rabbit ugh. Makes me gag just thinking about it.
