New member here. I'm glad to have discovered your community. Recently, I've become enamored in Social Physics, which is a field that emerged from the early 19th century attempt at applying classical mechanics and statistics to the study of sociology. I placed this post on the "Philosophical Realm" board because the recent advances of Big Data and Data Science towards the quantifiability of sociophysical phenomena prompt critical reevaluations of philosophical questions. This particular post from ArsTechnica is a great example of sociophysical inferences which have a strong power to disrupt: “Heatmap” for social athlete’s app reveals secret bases, secret places Social physics attempts to quantify social behavior. The recent developments in data science allow people to peer into aspects of human behavior which have been mostly assumed to be unquantifiable by the common person. Social physics can enable insights on where to invest resources for archeological digs. It can also help determine the ideal place for a food cart in a large city, so that you can ensure your location guarantees a sufficient flux of potential customers. Here's an article I've written on what I consider to be postulates of social physics, although I use postulates in a loose sense: Speed of Thought: Postulates I-XI. My writing on social physics is much less academic and formal than the researchers below. There's no rigorous math and I'm exploring it in a more philosophical sense. Here's another article I've written that explores the myth of King Arthur from a perspective informed by social physics: The Sword in the Stone: A Sociophysical Leadership Selection Protocol. Again, it's less formal, but I think more accessible. There are still some complicated references to math and science in my writing, but I'd love to discuss it. I can find fairly simple allegories whereby this complicated math can be explained. Simon Dedeo is a thought leader in the field. He's someone who understands quantum mechanics, but applies that math towards the social sciences. Here's a lecture of his, applying data science to the political field: Information Processing and Political Order. Here's a list of his research on Google Scholar. Peter Kraft is another person at the forefront of research in social physics. Peter has a ton of interesting research on Google Scholar. His PhD Dissertation is particularly important.

How exactly does it quantify it or into what? I am not too familiar with social physics.

It's not a secret that Sociology doesn't have any solid laws like in natural fields of science. What differs the subject from social biology or social astronomy?

I am keen to explore areas where there is greater tendency of hot chicks and observing there mating habits in terms of socio biology
