"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;"- Robert Frost. Have you had this experience of having to choose between two mutually exclusive life choices each of which you knew would change your life irreversibly?

It's very similar to Vasnecov's famous picture:

It's very similar to Vasnecov's famous picture: the poem elicits a very similar image in my mind except for that the rider here is a fighter and a fighter should know exactly where he is going

- Yes, I've never noticed before about it. This is something I've been naming a narrative. Arjuna also have been questioning about 'the right way'. I think that even a warrior can doubt about his way. And I also remember a book that I've read - 'Red Harves' by Dashiel Hammet. His story retells in Kurosawa's 'Yojimbo' and S. Leone's 'A Fistfull of Dollars'. And this is story probably follow from the very ancient times... The image of the warriors in all of these stories - is the questioning warrior. So, maybe soldiers should have right to doubt?..

So, maybe soldiers should have right to doubt?.. Doubting here is addressed as an existential problem. Being civil or military does not count in this respect, that is why the word "traveler" implies only that there is a man or woman who does not know what to do with their life and which way to go for their career. presenting this man or woman as a soldier does not help illustrate the concept of doubt as the soldier has at least decided to join the military institution.

PolarisRecently I saw words having been drawn on the wall, they told: 'the result is what justified our choices'. (I don't know how correct I've written it, because they've been drawn in Russian.)
The words made me think that every choice that possible to be evaluate by quantitative methods should be done by this way at first. I mean firstly we need to do something to see what will it give in the result, and then do choice.
Surely, there are many choices that they can't be evaluated by this way, and we can't be sure about the result. At least we must calculate them. That's all we can do. Power of thinking is helpful here.
And also, I guess, power of imagination is helpful here too - to wide our capacities of thinking.

Excellent analysis. in Robert Frost's poem the traveler also thought of trying to figure out where each road would take him.. he looked at one and saw it bending in the forest and looked the other and also saw it bending somewhere. He thought of walking one for a distance and then walking the other to see where each would lead him , but SORRY HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO MAKE THAT EXPERIMENT, so he just chose one and said in the future he will justify the consequences of his choice as that he had to choose between two different road and he could not travel both. Thank you my friend, you are a real philosopher.

PolarisThank you for your words!.. I can't even say I deserve to hear them...
And I want to apologize that I've not read the poem of R. Frost yet, the poem that you've told me to read. I'll try to do it little later, 'cause now I have not much time to read even the books, that need to be read by me. I'm sure the poem will be very helpful, since the power of Frost's magically deep and wise words has been charming us every time when we open his books...Yes, exactly. The traveler, I guess, did one of... no, he probably did the most right choice. Anyway, when we have no time to think, all we can do, I guess,... Well... maybe count on our pass experience about it? If I get it correctly the traveler has done the same - he's said that he will think about it after his decision...
Thank you, for you calling me 'a philosopher', but I don't even think I am not be able to think at all. Even the test (that diamond proposed to pass; about 16characters) showed that I'm rather closer to sensitive type than to thinker. Anyway, I'm really appreciate your words!.
