Unsure if this went in here but it didn't really fit the other science topics so there we are.
tDCS stands for Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, it involves a very simple circuit that sends 2ma (tiny amount) of electricity through electrodes that go on your head, sending the current through your brain, depending on where you put the electrodes depends on the effect.
I built a tDCS device last summer (cost about £30, very easy to do with minimal electronics skill), I've used it between 15-20 times at the moment I've tried the following montages (name for where the electrodes have been placed) "DARPA's Focus", one of the depression-treating positions (there's about 3), and increased insight (creative problem solving, supposedly can help bring on temporary savant-syndrome too).
So of those, the depression treating one gave me a headache and that's about it, increased insight seemed to speed up how quickly I came to conclusions but that was minimal and easily put down to placebo. The darpa one however, incredible, I became suddenly very calm, very focused, things that bothered me usually simple didn't. Stress vanished, work was easy to take on and do I didn't feel overwhelmed at all, the way I spoke changed a little - as if I had the full extent of my vocabulary, none of that "ahh... what's the word..", mental arithmetic was boosted. A side-effect was that all my emotions felt suppressed, I didn't feel particularly happy (nor sad or angry mind) which was all a little odd, my strongest emotion was irritation - not anger by any means simply mild annoyance.
I plan to continue using this and try out more positions to see their various effects.
Is anyone else here interested in improving our capabilities via things like this, biohacking, etc? Bonus:Has anyone else tried tDCS or ever wanted to?

That sounds scary a bit. So a machine changes you basically?

Sounds really exciting. Since making it seems easy (as you mentioned, "minimal" electronic skills which sounds easy to learn) it looks very promising. Keep us updated on the results of the different positions!

You will need a little more then "minimal" electronic skills, allot of people have hurt themselves with these devices! Buy one or you have to be really good with electronics and consult a doctor!
