Why horror? Are some people scared of knocks on the door?

Why horror? Are some people scared of knocks on the door? he must be horrified not because of the knock itself, but because he knows that he is the last man on the planet and no one is expected to knock on his door. it must be a devel or a spirit or it could be death. you could not argue that it could be a woman outside his door because "man" here is used generically to refer to humans from both sexes.

I think if a person is alone and he hears that someone is knocking it should give him glad that he is not single in the world !

I think if a person is alone and he hears that someone is knocking it should give him glad that he is not single in the world ! to appreciate his situation you have to take it for granted that he is the last human being on earth. the knock could not possibly come from another human being because they have extinguished. who else shares this practice of knocking on doors? is it death coming to claim him. is it a devil? what could it it be?

What if it was just an animal lurking around to get in. Like a bear?

What if it was just an animal lurking around to get in. Like a bear? because knocking on the door is not an animal behavior, the idea of a bear outside would not jump into his mind. he would think about a rational creature, and if he knew that it could not be man then he would be left with only the supernatural.

'The shortest horror story:"The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door"- Fredrick Brown I actually know this story well and loved it. I think part of the problem is it doesn't quite have the effect when you read it. To truly appreciate it, it has to be heard and the reader has to put the right emphasis in his/her reading.

That's really a book? Like hardcover with just one sentence?

That's really a book? Like hardcover with just one sentence? No it was part of a horror sci fi magazine. Amazing stories if memories serves and yeah it's pretty famous. It used to be the first thing read in the horror hall of fame events.
