Great post ! I knew this poem but didn't remember its name ! It's actually longer than what you posted, the poem below is called " The Chaos" and was written by G. Nolst Trenite, a.k.a. Charivarius (1870-1946). Here is the full version: www.i18nguy.com/chaos.htmlWhy do you have such a strange username?! Because that way it's hard to be found on Google. It's the l33t (leet) script version of the word "Otherwise", therefore every time someone write in l33t the word "otherwise", they type my nickname, so it confuses the hell out of Google which cannot tell if it's the username or the word that is being used. Also, as a nickname it's not already taken most of the time

We could just continue it ;p Hear me say, devoid of trickery, Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore, Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles, Exiles, similes, and reviles; Scholar, vicar, and cigar, Solar, mica, war and far; One, anemone, Balmoral, Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel; Gertrude, German, wind and mind, Scene, Melpomene, mankind. Billet does not rhyme with ballet, Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet. Blood and flood are not like food, Nor is mould like should and would. Viscous, viscount, load and broad, Toward, to forward, to reward. And your pronunciation's OK When you correctly say croquet, Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve, Friend and fiend, alive and live. Ivy, privy, famous; clamour And enamour rhyme with hammer. River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb, Doll and roll and some and home. Stranger does not rhyme with anger, Neither does devour with clangour. Souls but foul, haunt but aunt, Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant, Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger, And then singer, ginger, linger, Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge, Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Good luck everyone? I don't want to be the first to read because I just did it ;p Edit: I totally went first and I regret it, I hope you guys struggle more than I did vocaroo.com/i/s1IdSayBz9qd

Here is a challenge to brave souls xD Read the poem and put you voice here vocaroo.com and let us hear how well you read by posting your vocaroo reading here Can you do it? Making Contractions Obsolete Would HelpMost irregular spellings are caused by homonyms. For example, "eak" only sounds like "ache" in break and steak because of brake and stake. Why does English have so many words that sound the same (including homographs, words from two entirely different origins that are both spelled the same and sound the same, such as race and second)? One of the confusing words should change. Is this what is preventing phonetic spelling? Steak and stake would both be "stak." Corps would become a homophone of core. But a good start on phonics would be long vowel before single consonant, short vowel before double consonant, so stack would be "stakk." Why are new words intentionally spelled unphonetically? Ceylon should have become Shree Lonka, not Sri Lanka.

The problem with the English language (both UK and American) is that it is not actually one language - it is an amalgam of the many languages - native, conquest, settlement and empirical colonisation - that are found within our history. It is no wonder we have such a diverse pronunciation! Derivation FallacyBut there's no reason we have to keep the spelling of the borrowed language. It will let you see that night is related to Negro, but only nerdy professors would care about such trivia. And the Gk. ph should be written f. By the way, it wasn't pronounced f in Greek; it was pronounced like the ph in "flophouse."
