I have often considered that it would be perhaps a good idea to put the new testament before the old testament in the Bible.
This way when people pick it up 'determined' to read it 'from beginning to end', but then get distracted or lazy, they will not be left psychologically and metaphysically with some of the darker aspects of the old testament lingering in their subconsciousness.
After all, its not actually changing the wording to do this, and I am pretty sure some people will get out their fire brands at the though of such a post-modern idea.
The order of the books is not completely chronological anyways; as far as I recall, Job, Jonah and Ecclesiastes are of uncertain chronological origin.

I think this might be a good idea. God's more severe judgments are not well understood by some and people draw cross conlusions against them.
