PrayerWe worship the Father; pray to, and commune with, the Son; and work out the details of our earthly adventure with the Holy Spirit. Prayer must be used as a tool by which we align our will with the will of the Father, as a means by which we derive strength to go through the challenges of each passing day. Let us not prostitute prayer as a substitute for inaction, or as a means by which we avoid doing the things that are solely reserved for us to do. The name “Jesus” is not a magical word for persuading or changing the attitude of Deity. We are required to pray in Jesus’ name because we sometimes do not know how we ought to pray, and he intercedes on our behalf in that regard. See prayer as a means by which we make more room in our hearts for the Spirit to penetrate and convey the divine will to us. God has made provision for all our needs; all that is required now is the strength and wisdom to go out there and get it — talk about subduing the earth. If a problem needs solving, ask Jesus for wisdom. Not money, not power, not even healing, but wisdom!!! Christ teaches us to avoid vain repetitions in our prayers even as the pagans do, because in prayer only the motive of the heart matters — words mean nothing. Consider words as the means by which we express our heart’s intention, our true desires, as the channel through which we convey our motivating thoughts. It is the thought or intention which attract the response, and not the word symbols representing them. In all your prayers be sincere. Also eschew selfish prayers. God considers us all as sons, and requires us to recognize each other as brothers. Let us not pray in order to gain unfair advantage over one another. When we pray, we must expect a certain calmness and peace in the innermost parts of our being, a renewed strength to carry on, and when we ask for wisdom we should expect guidance from the spirit within us, or the ability to recognize wisdom coming from our fellow man since the Spirit of God dwells in them too. And when we are not sure that we pray according to the will of the Father, then we do well to ask according to his will (“if it be your will”), and trust God for a response even as we forge ahead. Let us strive to keep an unbroken communion with our maker.
