And for those who still naively believe that the Bible is infallible, and must always be taken at face value, and not questioned; note that there is an error by one of them in the times. So do you reckon that God just sort of turned off the Sun one morning or afternoon? (whichever it is) I do believe there is a rational explanation, but it pains me to see that many people still cannot accept that there requires an analytical approach to reading the Bible. That some of it has been lost in translation, or metaphors have been taken literally. I will withhold what I believe to be the correct reading until I have seen how others interpret this.

Hope I'm responding to the correct thread, different format to university forums so finding it a little confusing. Maybe but in the Old Testament everything was leading up to the birth and death of Christ and God was still having direct contact with mankind. I believe that one needs to apply logic when reading the scriptures, I'm sure God could have veiled the sun if He wanted to but even He can't change the laws of physics because He put them in place when the universe was created. “It is impossible for God to lie” (Heb. 6:18). “God cannot be tempted by evil” (Js. 1:12). “If we are faithless, God remains faithful — for he cannot deny himself” (2 Tim. 2:13). God Himself exists within His own perfect laws, why change perfection. Yes I read scripture. I brought this up in an earlier post; in Joshua 10 God stops the sun and the moon in the sky for a whole day. Isn't this a change in the laws of physics(that being Newton's first law of inertia)? God isn't limited by His own creation, He can do whatever He wants within it, it's His. Of course there are things He will not do, but obeying the laws of physics isn't one of them and this is shown in scripture many times.

aragwen So by this quote you are saying it's hard or impossible for God to do something? Doesn't that contradict the below verses? Luke 1:37 37 For with God nothing will be impossible. Jeremiah 32:27 27 “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? Matthew 19:26 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Jesus walked on water.. I mean if that doesn't violate the laws of physics then idk what does

But I have already indicated that God is limited by His own creation. Again I don't believe it means the sun and moon literally stopped, it's just a turn of phrase to emphasise that nothing was as important as Joshua beating his enemies.
As for the laws of physics 2+2=4, a square will always be a square and as we don't know everything about the laws of physics in fact probably very little one can't know that God isn't obeying those laws. Think of a black hole, a place where there is no time, I'm sure if humans existed long enough we would end up doing even more amazing things.
I'm here in the UK typing away on a machine that has a tiny chip, I have no idea how it works but it's fantastic and I'm sure if people from only a hundred years ago could see this they would think it is some kind of trick. How far superior is God to us.
Before Einstein, scientists believed that all physical laws to be discovered were already discovered. Of course, that was proven wrong. I'm quite sure in the future other physical laws will be discovered and other found to be wrong hence falsification theory.

That’s nothing, when Jesus returns all the stars in the sky will fall from the heavens, meaning they all don’t show their light for a little while!

The stars referred to in Revelations as being cast down are talking about fallen angels who rebelled along with Satan.

Of course he did. One of the miracles that Gospels attribute to Jesus is that of him walking on the surface of the Galilee Sea. As a man of science, I do not buy easily into religion, especially not the stories that border on supernatural or miraculous. However, this time, I am tempted to say that there might be a shred of truth in this story, because it can in fact be backed by science. Walking on water is possible - provided it is thixotropic. Read on. www.dedoimedo.com/physics/cornflour.htmlAll to do with physics, I am sure God can change molecules and such but that is not defying the laws of physics, just means we can't do it.
