To begin with, What is a FACT? And why is it called a FACT? This actually seems a good thread for the philosophy section! But a fact is something that is perceived to be true based on whatever research or studies done. Then if it comes out as a reliable outcome each time it's perceived as a fact.

To begin with, What is a FACT? And why is it called a FACT? This actually seems a good thread for the philosophy section! But a fact is something that is perceived to be true based on whatever research or studies done. Then if it comes out as a reliable outcome each time it's perceived as a fact. I will repeat my response which I lost yesterday. Yes, this thread should be in the philosophy section. Anyway: You made a redundant statement, essentially "a fact = a fact that is perceived to be true", and then you attempted to state a criterion of truth. To avoid redundancy, we could say that a fact is [=] something that is perceived to be true, or "something that is perceived to be real, or to really happen", and then we would have to posit a criterion or "what is real" or a real occurrence, since we suppose or have an opinion of, but do not literally perceive, what is real. (There is a long history about alleged "objective (truthful)" and "subjective" perceptions, after Plato denied that perceptions are either, in my oft-mentioned "Theaetetus".) // In your writing, and generally in the English language, the word "true" and the word "real" are used interchangeably. As Vico would say, this practice started among the ancient Latins or Romans, since he discovered that in their language, Verum (what is true) is convertible with Factum (fact), but the word "factum" literally means "(what is) made or done" … or "realized". So, he produced his theory of true knowledge: He has the knowledge of what something is in itself (objectively) who makes (constructs) or does it. As History is the story of human deeds and human artifacts, history is a science (a body of true knowledge), whereas Physics and Metaphysics are not sciences (since humans are not authors of physical or non-physical beings). Incidentally, Galileo produced a science of nature by intervening in nature and reforming the conception of truth. Vico opposed the Rationalistic Philosophers (Descartes et al.)who believed they could produce a scientific metaphysics. Kant asked, Is metaphysics possible at all?
