would magnetic plating , or even magnetic field generators be a possible use for radiation shielding on the ISS? what i'm trying to say is what if we can build something can mimic the effect of the earth's magnetic field as use in space?

I've been thinking about this too. The Earth's magnetosphere is very weak, but it extends very far into space. A strong field could be dangerous - and also disrupt instruments, so we would need to have a field that is strong but only extends for a small amount. So the wall would contain the field, but the field would only be prevalent at the wall, and thus inside the ship, and just beyond it, the fields dissipates. So instead of the field dissipating to the inverse of the square, it should dissipate to the inverse of a cube. Thus we could use a loop current. But if we put loops within loops, we could find a way to dissipate the field to the inverse of 4, or 5, or more?
