Americans and Canadians! What is the difference? Americans do you feel closeness to the Canadians? Do Canadians consider themselves Americans? What are your complaints about each other? Why?

I'm American but I live on the border of Canada and America. They're like a sibling that is more quiet. The Canadians I know are basically like my fellow Americans, and they feel the same about me. So I guess I just think of them as part of my "people". I don't have any complaints about them, but the French-Canadians sometimes think they're better than everyone else. Maybe I'm more Canadian than American in a way because I'm in a strong Canadian area where we share a lot of the same culture, food, sports, etc. Whereas in other parts of America they may seem more foreign. Anyways... I consider Canada a second home, which says a lot

I live far from Canada in the Southern United States and I am an American, and I can tell you that me and the people around me give Canada no thought at all. I suspect that most Americans are like this. This Rebel Media video with Gavin Mccinnes hammers the point home.
Notice the observation by Gavin at the end, "that's what Americans think of Canada... They don't." We don't really care about Canada; it... exists.
As for the difference between the two. Canada doesn't have a south or right wing southern culture. Its deviant culture is Quebec and the Quebecois which is downright socialist. Canada is far more left wing and doesn't have things like freedom of speech or the right to bear arms. Their motto is not "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" but, "peace, order, and good governance." Its also colder and the big issue is between languages rather than race. It French vs English rather than black vs white. Overall I don't want to live in Canada, its cold, and I don't want to live in a country where I can be arrested for "hate speech."

I am an American and live right near the American/Canadian border, Canada is about 25 minutes away from me. I see them as very similar but not the same. Their culture is different, their accent is slightly different, they tend to lean left and far left much more commonly than us politically, and there is some other things like they seem to not drive so great here, and such. I don’t know though, similar but not the same. Intimacy is kinda an odd word, I wouldn’t use that to describe how I feel towards them or about them.

Weird... some might think that, Canadians are pretty weird. I have some friends who live there. They told me I have to call them Canadian and I can’t call them American, so I told them they have to call me Californian

USA is a weird name though because it's like they claim they're the only Americans when we have 2 American continents actually. I know this is an old comment but I should respond here. The country is not called "America" originally but the United States of America. Originally the United States was not seen as one unitary nation indivisible but as a confederacy of sovereign states. When you asked a pre civil war American what his country was he would name his state. I would say that my country is South Carolina, DKtrav would say his country was California etc if we lived before the Civil War. It wasn't until the North won the civil war and the Hamiltonian "nationalist" position of the Yankees triumphed when we started seeing the USA as a nation rather than a collection of nations bound together in a confederacy. We started calling ourselves "Americans" with all the weirdness that it entails.

THE CONTINENT IS CALLED NORTH AMERICA SO THEY ARE BOTH AMERICANS. THEN THERE IS SOUTH AMERICA.
THE UNITED STATES IS A MORE ACCURATE SHORT REFERENCE FOR THE USA THEN AMERICA IS.
I HAVE BEEN IN AMERICA ALL MY LIFE AS FAR BACK AS I CAN REMEMBER.
I MET SOMEONE WHO SAID THEY WERE CANADIAN AND THE LAW IN THAT NATION IS SIMILAR TO THE UNITED STATES IN THAT YOU NEED PERMISSION FROM THE GOVERNMENT TO HAVE GUNS ACCORDING TO THEM.
GETTING A GUN AND CARRYING IT AROUND BRINGS THE PROBABILITY OF GETTING ARRESTED FOR IT. RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS? THAT IS JUST HISTORY. THAT IS NOT THE LAW ACCORDING TO THE STATES I HAVE BEEN TO.
I HEARD STORIES OF GENERAL STORES SELLING GUNS TO PRACTICALLY ANYONE WHO WANTED TO BUY ONE OR MORE A FEW DECADES AGO AND YOU DID NOT NEED A BACKGROUND CHECK.
NOW IF YOU WANT A GUN YOU MIGHT NEED TO GET TO KNOW A PERSON WHO WANTS TO SELL YOU ONE. A LOT OF STORES ARE NOT BEING RUN BY THE OWNER OF THE BUSINESS. SOMETIMES THE PEOPLE WHO WERE HIRED DO NOT KNOW THE OWNER AND THAT DOES NOT SOUND RIGHT.
