What do you want to know? Im not 100% knowledgable but will try my best.
Differences to protestant - Faith and Good Deeds lead to heaven (not only faith) - Saints, Iconography is not considered idol worship but integral part of the faith - Reliquiem can do wonders and heal, not considered pagan - Monastic life, They have nuns and monks who dont marry and live celibate
Differences to Catholic -Priests can marry -There are not statues of Mother of God (but there are Icons but not Statues) -You can divorce under special circumstances and remarry -We dont accept the Pope as head of all christians
Differences to western christianity -Some orthodox like russian and serbian orthodox church use a different church calender, the difference is ours is two weeks "late" so 25th december is 7th january for us thats why we celebrate Christmas on 7th janury -Presents are not important, Jesus birth is important on christmas

It is very much to explain. But why dont you ask just what you want to know exactly and I will try to explain If I can, also Epitimia might know something better because he is Russian and likely orthodox.

Just trying to learn more about the differences between protestants and orthodox because I was never orthodox and just wonder what other slavs believe. More differences: -Orthodox have strict church rules like rules for fasting (when it is and how you observe fast). I think protestants fast when they feel like and renounce what they want or feel like they should renounce, orthodox have strict rules. Correct would be every wednesday and friday + big fasts before christmas (1 month) and before easter (1 month). No meat, no diaries, no eggs, no butter, no milk. Fish is allowed and wine is allowed. -Orthodox have given prayers often, they pray how its given or written down by some church fathers. Protestants pray how they want, they reject given prayers because they think you need a special personal relationship with God. We have given prayers in the sense like Lords Prayer is given. -We believe saints and mother of God are mediums to God (we dont pray to them like we pray to God) but they pray for us to God and we ask them to pray for us to God. Protestants dont believe in that, they believe its idol worship.

So where do you get a schedule for it? Like where in the bible does it say every wednesday and every Friday without eating the foods you mentioned? Yes, we make our own prayers but also do the Lord's prayer as well. Where does it mention to have given prayers in the Bible?

We also do our own prayers, but we have also rules and given, for example its important in Liturgy, i dont know if you have liturgy? I dont say what you do is wrong, I love all christians and was once in a evangelical church to pray with them. If my mum were not upset and angry and cried I would have become part of their church, but without renouncing orthodoxy just going to Bible Studies and Church, because they were really nice community, they also were dressed modest, the females had a headwear and long skirt and the males a suit. But my mum thought its a cult and didnt like it, she is stupid though. Anyways I think we have a rich liturgy and I like it and also I like the church interiors with all the saints and icons etc. its really beautiful. There are academies for orthodox painters and artists to learn to paint so beautiful.

No, incense were mostly used in Juduism/old testament and not mentioned in new testament so we don't use it.

To request simple explanations is not easy, especially for the layperson. Adults coming into Orthodoxy sometimes spend many months to years studying the foundation and fundamental beliefs that construct Orthodoxy. I don't think that any simple exchange is sufficient or does Orthodoxy justice. Mortimer gives basic ideas but Orthodoxy is much more deep and multi-dimensional for those with genuine interest. My personal recommendation is to take your questions to your local Orthodox priest, request time set aside for questions and answers and he can schedule time for you. WebSites of interest: www.pravoslavie.ru/www.dobroeslovo.ru/This forum has section for questions to Priests: www.svechaforum.ru/I recommend not relying strongly on laypersons to explain certain issues. As we wouldn't rely on someone who read medical textbook to perform surgery on us when a qualified doctor is nearby.
